Our Strategy 2025-2030 outlines a vision to become a nationally recognised, specialist mental health legal centre that leads effective, community-responsive action. It focuses on supporting people experiencing mental ill health, psychosocial disability, or vulnerability to understand and exercise their rights, while driving systemic legal and policy change that promotes dignity, safety, and equity. MHLC aims to deliver social justice particularly in highly restrictive settings like prisons and hospitals, as well as for individuals who are often overlooked or subjected to coercive control. Central to this vision is a commitment to rights, choice, and agency, ensuring individuals are empowered and supported through both legal services and broader advocacy.
MHLC plans to expand its national reach, deepen its preventative and systemic impact, and build a strong workforce and partnerships across the health and justice sectors. Overall, the strategic intent is to establish MHLC as a leading, rights-based organisation that improves access to justice and wellbeing outcomes through multidisciplinary support and transformative system-level change.
